Cyclone Gabrielle
There are lots of ways we can help, and we can point you in the right direction based on what you need help with.
What do you need help with?
Nowhere to stay
If you've had to evacuate and need accommodation, you can register with the Temporary Accommodation Service. You can do this online on the Temporary Accommodation Service website, or call them on 0508 754 163. They will contact you within 2 working days to understand your needs.
Paying for accommodation costs
You may be able to get an Accommodation Supplement. This is a weekly payment to help pay for rent, board or the cost of owning a home.
If you need help with urgent or unexpected costs due to the cyclone, we may be able to help. We can help paying for things like:
- food
- clothing and bedding
- refilling water tanks
- emptying septic tanks
- repairs or replacing appliances.
What you qualify for will depend on your situation and you may have to pay the money back.
Call us on 0800 559 009 to talk to us about how we can help, or you can visit your local service centre.
We can help you with:
- searching for jobs available
- training
- writing a CV or cover letter
- new clothes for job interviews
- paying for work equipment
- paying for childcare while you work.
We’d like to talk with you about how we can help you. You can visit us in any of our service centres, and you don’t need an appointment to do this.
There is a range of support available to help you and your business if you've been affected by Cyclone Gabrielle in Tairāwhiti or Hawke's Bay.
