Living in public housing
If you live in public (social) housing, find out about your rent payments and how your tenancy works.
Something changes
While you're living in public housing, you need to let us know straight away about any changes in your or your partner's situation.
How long you can stay
When you move into public housing, you can stay for as long as you qualify. We may review your tenancy from time to time while you're living there.
Due to COVID-19, tenancy reviews are on hold until further notice.
How much rent you pay
The amount of rent you pay is based on your income and the income of people you live with. This is called 'Income Related Rent'. We'll work out how much you'll need to pay.
Help with housing costs
If you're falling behind in your rent, or need help with things like keeping your home warm, we may be able to help.
Repairs and maintenance
If you live in public housing, you can request maintenance and view maintenance jobs through MyKāingaOra. This is an online way for public housing tenants to check their accounts, rent balances, maintenance requests and much more.
