Born, travelled or lived overseas
We'll need to know a lot more about you if you were born overseas or you've lived and worked abroad. Periods of overseas residence may affect entitlement to benefits or pensions including New Zealand Superannuation.
Born overseas
If you were not born in New Zealand, you'll need to have the following information handy when you're completing the online form:
- country of birth and the date of departure
- date of arrival in NZ
- date citizenship or permanent residence was granted.
Lived or travelled overseas
Overseas residence may mean that you are eligible for an overseas benefit or pension.
If you lived and/or worked overseas you'll need to tell us:
- dates you lived overseas
- countries you lived in
- dates when you travelled overseas for 4 weeks or more
- details of any overseas pension you receive or are entitled to.
Don't know exact dates
If you do not know the exact date, enter an approximate date. This information is required to assess eligibility to any overseas pension or benefit.
