Change of costs for Disability Allowance

If you're getting a Disability Allowance and you have a new cost that you need help with, or a cost has changed, you need to let us know straight away.

If you’re not sure what costs are included in your Disability Allowance, you can check in MyMSD.

Find out about MyMSD
  • A new cost

If you have another cost that you want the Disability Allowance to help with and you're getting less than the maximum amount of $63.22 a week, we may be able to help.

    • Your doctor needs to complete a Disability Certificate form
    • You need to get proof of the new cost.

Drop these documents off at one of our service centres, or post them to us.

    Find your nearest service centre

If the cost is approved, we'll include it in your Disability Allowance from the date the cost started.

Find out what costs the Disability Allowance can help with

If you’re already getting the maximum amount of Disability Allowance, we may still be able to help. Call us on 0800 559 009.

  • Cost has increased

If a cost that you’re getting Disability Allowance for has increased, you need to let us know.

You need to get proof of the change of cost and drop it off at one of our service centres, or post it to us.

    Find your nearest service centre

If the cost is approved, we'll reassess your Disability Allowance from the date the cost increased.

  • Cost has stopped or decreased

If a cost that you’re getting Disability Allowance for has stopped or decreased, you need to let us know straight away.

You can call us on 0800 559 009 and tell us:

    • the date the cost stopped or decreased
    • how much the cost has decreased to (if the cost decreased).

We’ll reassess your Disability Allowance from the date you call us.

If you don’t tell us straight away, we’ll reassess your Disability Allowance from the date the cost stopped or decreased. This means you may get a debt.
