Register as a Work and Income supplier

To get payments from us on behalf of our clients, you need to be registered as a supplier. Follow the steps on this page to register.

You need to register as a supplier with us if:

  • you're a supplier of goods or services, and
  • you want to receive payments from us or other parts of the Ministry of Social Development.

Payments include being able to accept:

If you're a private accommodation provider, we'll remove your record after we've paid you. If you need to be paid again, you'll need to register again.

Steps to register

Complete the following steps to register as a supplier.

Step 1 - Complete the registration form

You can complete our online registration form, unless your Merchant ID has letters in it. In this case, fill out our paper form.

Merchant ID

When you register using the online form:

  • only enter the first 25 characters of your business name or trading name.
  • enter your GST or IRD number without spaces or dashes.

We'll send you an email with your completed online registration form attached.

Register using the paper form

Only use the paper-based form if either:

  • your Merchant ID has letters in it, or
  • you have problems with the online form.

You can get the form to us, together with your supporting documents (see step 2 and 3).

Step 2 - Gather your supporting documents

We need:

  • verification of your bank account or building society account, which shows your:
    • account name
    • account number, and
    • bank logo
  • an EFTPOS printout (if you have EFTPOS) confirming your EFTPOS Merchant ID.

If you're a homeowner, property manager, or head tenant, there are other documents you need as well.

Homeowners

You also need to provide these supporting documents:

  • land rates or ownership documents from your lawyer
  • trust deeds, if the property is in a trust
  • photo ID for the homeowner as is written on the land and water rates bills and mortgage details, and
  • a written contract of authority if someone is acting on behalf of a homeowner. This includes contact details and photo ID for the homeowner and the person acting their behalf.

Property managers

You also need to provide these supporting documents:

  • a contract between the property management company and the homeowner(s)
  • photo ID for the property manager and the homeowner(s).

Head tenants

You also need to provide these supporting documents:

  • tenancy agreements between the head tenant and the homeowner(s)
  • photo ID for the head tenant and the homeowner(s).

Step 3 - Get your supporting documents to us

To email your supporting documents, scan or take a photo and send them to cpu_suppliers@msd.govt.nz.

If you completed the online form, make sure you include your application reference number in the subject line.

Step 4 - What happens next

We'll contact you either to let you know:

  • your registration is successful and give you your supplier number, or
  • if we need more details from you.

Please refer any questions about payments to the client applying for the payment. We cannot discuss any client information with you.

Cancel your registration

If you no longer want to be registered as a supplier you can email us cpu_suppliers@msd.govt.nz.

You’ll need to provide your trading name and supplier number (it starts with the letters 'CUR').
