Private property owners, managers, and landlords

There are lots of ways we can help tenants to move in and stay at your property. We can even help you find a tenant.

Note

Your tenant needs to apply for any help they need themselves. Only an appointed agent can act on their behalf.

Helping our clients get ready to rent

To help our clients succeed as tenants, some have attended a 2 day 'Ready to rent' course run by contracted providers.

These courses cover:

  • Rights and responsibilities of being a tenant.
  • Communicating with landlords.
  • Home budgeting, managing costs and debt.
  • Keeping a home warm and dry.
  • Support available to them, including housing, financial and employment services.

Help with bond and accommodation costs in advance

The type of help people may be able get depends on whether or not it’s an accommodation or tenancy agreement that the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) applies to.

  • Help with bond:
    • Bond Grant - help with bond for people who have a tenancy agreement under the RTA, or
    • Accommodation Security Cover Grant - help to pay end-of tenancy costs for people who don't have an accommodation or tenancy agreement under the RTA.
  • Accommodation Costs in Advance Grant - help with rent, board or other accommodation costs (e.g. cabin hire) in advance. This is for people who have an agreement under the RTA as well as those who don’t.

Help with end of tenancy costs

To give you assurance that costs can be paid for when your tenant leaves, they may be able to get Tenancy cost cover. This is to help guarantee end-of tenancy costs that aren't covered by the bond.
