Wages change
If you get a different amount each pay (weekly, fortnightly or monthly), you need to let us know. The amount you earn may affect your benefit and any other payments you get from us.
If you don't tell us, we may not pay you enough. Or we may pay you too much and you'll have to pay the debt back.
Do you need to declare income?
Tell us before you get paid
Note
You need let us know the week you earn the money, not when you've been paid. We need to know by Friday 6 pm. If you're working the weekend, include this time too.
The amount you declare will continue every week until you let us know it has stopped or changed.
Make an estimate
If you don't know what you'll be paid, tell us what you think it will probably be.
What we need to know:
- the amount before tax (gross) or estimate for that week, or the hourly rate
- the number of hours you work in a week.
If you start a new job we also need to know:
- who you work for (this could be more than one employer or yourself)
- when you started work.
How to tell us
The easiest way to tell us about your wages is to use MyMSD.
Our new mobile friendly MyMSD is a simple option you can use on your mobile, tablet or computer.
You'll need your client number to register then follow a few simple steps.
If you can't use MyMSD
If you can't use MyMSD you can call us or come into one of our service centres.
If you’re declaring income from self-employment, make sure you mention you're self-employed.
How your main benefit will be affected
Other payments from us such as Accommodation Supplement, may also be affected.
Made a mistake or need to change your estimate?
If you think the amount you entered in our online services isn't right, correct this as soon as you can by logging back in.
If you need to change your estimate after 6pm on Friday, call us on 0800 559 009 before midday the following Monday. This will help us pay the right amount and avoid under or overpayments.
