Income rules for Special Benefit
If you're getting Special Benefit you have to tell us about any income, one-off payments or assets you, or your partner, get.
How it works
If you get Special Benefit as part of the benefits you're paid you have to tell us about any other regular payments, assets or one-off payments you, or your partner, get.
Changes to your other payments
If your other payments from us change, it could affect how much you get for your Special benefit. This includes main benefits (e.g. Jobseeker Support or Supported Living Payment), and extra help payments (e.g. Accommodation Supplement or Disability Allowance).
If your main benefit payment goes up, your Special Benefit payment may go down. If your main benefit goes down, your Special Benefit may go up. Main benefits are reviewed every year on 1 April, and they usually go up from this date.
If you're getting extra help, your Special Benefit may change if your extra help payment changes. If your costs go down (e.g. your prescriptions), your Special Benefit payment may go down, because you're paying less. If your costs go up (e.g. your rent), your Special benefit may go up, because you're paying more.
