Kōrero Mahi work seminars
At our Kōrero Mahi work seminars you'll get support to get ready to work. We'll explain how we can help you find work, and get you set up to start applying for jobs.
Work seminars are in-person seminars held at your local Work and Income office. The seminars take about 1 hour.

Who the seminars are for
You have to go to a seminar if:
- you've applied for Jobseeker Support for the first time, and
- and you have full-time or part-time work obligations.
If you've reapplied for Jobseeker Support at 26 weeks (6 months), you may have to go to a seminar. Find out more on the Reapply for Jobseeker Support page.
You don't have to go if you're getting any other benefit, or if you're getting Jobseeker Support and only have work preparation obligations.
Which seminar you need to go to
If you have full-time work obligations, you need to go to:
- 'Kōrero Mahi - Let's talk work' within 2 weeks of starting Jobseeker Support.
If you have part-time work obligations, you need to go to:
- 'Kōrero Mahi - Into work' within 2 weeks of starting Jobseeker Support.

You need to go to this seminar if you have full-time work obligations. You need to go within 2 weeks of starting Jobseeker Support.
About the seminar
At the seminar we'll tell you about:
- what you have to do while you're getting Jobseeker Support
- how we can help you get ready for work
- where to look for jobs and what help you can get.
We'll also talk with you one-on-one about:
- what you've been doing to find work
- what kind of work you can do
- what support you need to get a job, like a CV, training, work gear or clothes
- what your next step is to get into work.
Booking a seminar
We'll book you in for a seminar after you apply for Jobseeker Support. We'll do this when you come to your first appointment.
If you can't make it to your seminar
You can rebook in MyMSD if it's the first time you can't make it. Just open your appointment from the home screen and select 'I can't make it'. You can rebook for a date up to 4 weeks in the future. If you can't use MyMSD, call us on 0800 559 009.
If you can't make it a second time, let us know as soon as possible by calling 0800 559 009. If you have a good reason, we can rebook you again for another date.
Kōrero Mahi - Into work
You need to go to this seminar if you have part-time work obligations because of your health condition or disability. You need to go within 2 weeks of starting Jobseeker Support.
About the seminar
This seminar is to help you prepare and find work that's suitable for you. We want to understand how you're doing and how we can help you.
At the seminar we'll talk about:
- how we'll work with you
- what support we can offer
- getting yourself ready to work, finding jobs and ongoing support while you're working
- what you have to do while you're getting Jobseeker Support.
We'll also talk with you one-on-one about:
- your individual situation, so we can understand what's important to you
- what kind of work you can do
- what we can do to help you find the right job.
Seminars are held in a private room at your local Work and Income office, with a small group of people. We won't discuss your personal situation in a group setting.
Booking a Kōrero Mahi - Into work seminar
You need to come to a seminar within 2 weeks of starting Jobseeker Support.
We'll book the seminar for you, and let you know when and where it is.
If you can't make it to your seminar
You can rebook in MyMSD if it's the first time you can't make it. Just open your appointment from the home screen and select 'I can't make it'. You can rebook for a date up to 4 weeks in the future. If you can't use MyMSD, call us on 0800 559 009.
If you can't make it a second time, let us know as soon as possible by calling 0800 559 009. If you have a good reason, we can rebook you again for another date.
After your seminar
By the end of the seminar you'll know what you need to do to get yourself ready to work, and where to look for jobs.
If there’s something you need specific help with that we talked about at your seminar, we’ll be in touch to sort this out.
These things can also help:
- Get ready to work – specialised help with CVs, cover letters, or job interviews.
- Feeling anxious about work – talk to someone if you need support or you’re feeling anxious.
- Find jobs – places you can look for jobs and find the right job for you.
- Where to look for jobs – job-search websites where you can find something that works for you.
- How to choose the right job – tools and experts to help you find out what you're good at and what job suits you.
What happens if you don't go to the seminar
Attending the 'Kōrero Mahi - Let's talk work' and 'Kōrero Mahi - Into work' seminars is part of your obligations to look for or prepare for work.
If you don't attend (and you haven’t rebooked), you need to have a good reason why you couldn't come. Otherwise your Jobseeker Support could reduce or stop.
