Christmas and New Year pay dates and office hours for 2025

News:

When you'll be paid and when we're open over the 2025 Christmas holidays.

Payment dates

For Seniors and Veteran's Pension, there won't be any changes to when you get paid these Christmas and New Years holidays.

For everyone else, the payment changes are as follows:

Week 22 December - 26 December

If you normally get paid on:

You'll be paid on:
Tuesday 23 December No change
Wednesday 24 December No change
Thursday 25 December Wednesday 24 December

Week 29 December - 2 January

If you normally get paid on:

You'll be paid on:
Tuesday 30 December No change
Wednesday 31 December No change
Thursday 1 January Wednesday 31 December

Childcare payments

We can't pay childcare between the Christmas and New Year break if the childcare centre is closed.

Declaring your income

For Seniors and Veteran's Pension

If you need to declare income you need to do this before 10pm Friday 19 December 2025.

For everyone else

If you need to declare income, you need to do this earlier than usual on these weeks:

  • for 21-28 December, declare your income before 10pm on Wednesday 24 December
  • for 29 December-4 January, declare your income before 10pm on Wednesday 24 December.

Our operating hours

All our service centres, contact centres and our Service Express line are closed on:

  • Thursday 25 December, Christmas Day
  • Friday 26 December, Boxing Day
  • Thursday 1 January, New Year's Day
  • Friday 2 January, day after New Year's Day.

Some service centres will also be closed on other dates

These service centres offices listed below will be closed from Monday 29 December 2025 to Wednesday 31 December 2025:

  • Balclutha
  • Kaikōura
  • Tākaka
  • Ohakune
  • Taradale.

Our online services

You can use MyMSD at any time, including public holidays. MyMSD is our online service where you can apply and manage your information online.

You can use it to do things like:

  • apply for a food grant and dental costs
  • declare your wages
  • tell us about a change in address, phone or accommodation costs
  • view your payment details
  • tell us about overseas travel.
