Information that helps us when you report a suspected fraud
Here are some of the things we may want to know which will help us investigate your report.
Don't worry if you can't provide all of the information in the lists below. The more information you can give us the easier it is for us to work out a person's correct benefit entitlement.
Important information
When we investigate your report it's helpful for us to know:
- the full name of the person who you think is committing fraud
- any other names they are known by
- their address and phone number
- their age and date of birth
- the type of benefit you think they're getting
- who else is involved
- any other information about them to help us identify them.
You can also make allegations about our suppliers, providers, businesses, and people appointed as agents for other clients.
Are they working and getting a benefit?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- the name and address of their employer
- how long they've been employed there
- how they're being paid, for example cash or direct credit.
Are they self-employed and getting a benefit?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- the name of their business
- what their business does
- where their business operates
- how long they've run their business
- if they employ anyone else.
Do they have any extra income or assets?
If you think they do, then we'd like to know:
- where they get the income from, for example:
- a rental property
- cash jobs
- trusts
- shares
- how much they get
- how often they get it.
Do they live with a partner but say they're living alone?
If you think they do, then we'd like to know:;
- the full name of their partner and any other names they're known by
- their partner's age and date of birth
- their partner's address
- whether their partner works and who employs them
- why you think that they're a couple
- how long they've been in a relationship
- whether they have had children together
- the names and ages of any children they have.
Are they getting a benefit for a child they aren't caring for?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- the name and age of any child no longer in their care
- when the child left their care
- where and who the child is living with.
Are they using a false identity, or someone else's identity?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- the name of the person misusing this identity
- whose identity they're using
- what have they used it for
- what documents or information they are using
- how they got hold of these.
Are they getting more than one benefit?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- which benefits you think they're getting
- the number of benefits you think they're getting
- if they have any other names or aliases.
Are they misusing a payment card?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- whether they sold their payment card, or have someone else's
- what they bought with the payment card
- where and when they used it.
Have they been appointed as an agent for a client, but they are acting dishonestly?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- who they are
- who they are acting for
- what they've done that is concerning you.
Are they a supplier or business that are acting dishonestly?
If you think they are, then we'd like to know:
- who the business owner or employee is that is being dishonest
- whether anyone else is involved
- what they've done that is concerning you.
