What we expect you to do when in emergency housing
When you’re staying in emergency housing, there are things we expect you to do.
We expect you to:
- understand the security deposit responsibilities and conditions of payment
- understand and follow the supplier's rules and not do anything that will result in being asked to leave
- understand what will happen if you cause or contribute to your emergency housing need
- be responsible for your actions and those of your guests. For example, if you or one of your guests has damaged property, you'll need to pay for it
- accept offers of housing if it meets the needs of you and your whānau, including temporary options like transitional housing
- let us know if things change, including if:
- you leave your emergency housing
- your or your partner's income changes
- the make-up of your household changes (for example, if your relationship changes or the number of children in your care changes)
- do all you need to do to meet any benefit obligations you may have, such as searching for or getting ready to work.
Your responsibilities after 7 nights
If you're in emergency housing for more than 7 nights, there are also responsibilities you have to meet from the 8th night. Find out what these are and what happens if you don't meet them.
