Employment service for people with a disability or health condition
If you have a disability or health condition, including a mental health condition or neurodiversity, you can get one-on-one help to find work, support during your first year of employment, and as needed while you're in employment.
We have contracted experienced Employment Service providers who can work with you to prepare you for work, and help you find an ongoing job. The provider will also support you while you're in work.
Our providers are experts in preparing people for work and finding job opportunities. They specialise in helping people who have a disability, health condition, mental health condition, or are neurodiverse move into work.
Who can get it
You can use Employment Service if:
- you have a disability or health condition, including a mental health condition or neurodiversity, and this is likely to continue for six months or more, and
- your disability or health condition affects your ability to find work, and
- you're ready to go into work, and
- you're currently living in New Zealand, and
- you're a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident, and
- you're aged between 16 and 64, and
- you've left school.
You don't need to be getting a benefit to use Employment Service.
What you can get
Employment Service providers can help with:
- career planning
- preparation for employment, eg. help writing a CV, techniques for interviews, etc.
- job searching and matching
- employment placement

- talking with your employer about how they can best support you while you're working.
Once you're in work, they can provide ongoing support to you and, if needed, your employer, for up to one year.
How to apply
You'll need to contact an Employment Service provider. If you're getting a benefit from us, you may already have an Employment Service provider. If you don't already have a provider, you can choose from a list of providers in your area:
Your provider will let you know how they'll work with you and help you develop a plan for your employment future.
