You’ve seen what the LSV course is about - respect, discipline and teamwork.
You’ve seen the strong focus on learning as well as fitness, presentation and pride.
And you’ve heard from employers who’ve given jobs to graduates, and would do so again.
Most of the young people on LSV have been on a benefit, often for six months or more.
Being dependent on a benefit long-term can rob these young people of aspiration, hope and self-worth.
I've personally seen first-hand the difference the LSV course makes.
I’m enormously proud of the effort it takes, for young people to turn their situation around, and come out hungry to work and better themselves.
This Government is supporting young people into jobs.
We’re committed to the LSV scheme, because we know it works.
We’re committed to helping employers offer jobs to young people.
And to do that, we’ve introduced the Jobstreams subsidy to get them a foot in the door.
We’ve made this easy for employers to use.
Work and Income can talk you through the process in a matter of minutes.
Now we need a similar commitment from employers.
So I’m asking you to consider taking one of these young people on.
Give them a chance and offer them an opportunity to succeed.
This is how we make a difference to young people’s lives, by backing them, believing in them and opening the door to a brighter future for them in New Zealand.
