Live Organ Donor Assistance
If you’re donating a kidney or liver tissue for transplant within New Zealand, you may be able to get help with any loss of income or extra childcare costs you have because of your operation. It does not provide full compensation for loss of income.
Who can get it
You may be able to get Live Organ Donor Assistance if you have:
- been assessed as an appropriate donor by a District Health Board
- given your free and informed consent to become a live kidney donor or liver tissue donor
- stopped work to have surgery
- chosen to take either:
- unpaid leave, or
- paid leave and it's less than your normal pay.
You can still get Live Organ Donor Assistance if you have paid leave available and choose not to take it.
If you're an overseas donor, you may be able to get Live Organ Donor Assistance if your surgery is carried out in New Zealand.
