Christchurch Mosques Attack Welfare payment
If you can't earn enough income to pay for the things you and your family need, and you're affected by the attacks, we may be able to help.
Who can get it
You may be able to get this payment if you're in one of these situations:
You:
- would have qualified for a Christchurch Response (2019) - permanent resident visa, when applications were open between 24 April 2019 to 24 April 2021, and
- were in New Zealand on 15 March 2019.
OR
You:
- are in New Zealand on a temporary visa
- have a parent, partner, child or sibling who either:
- died as a result of the attack
- was injured as a result of the attack, or
- was present during the attack
- are not dependent on your parent/s
- are unable to earn enough income to support yourself and any dependent family.
OR
You:
- are in New Zealand on a temporary visa
- are part of, or connected to, the 2 mosques or the Christchurch Muslim Community
- were in New Zealand on 15 March 2019, and
- are experiencing trauma because of the attacks.
What you can get
The amount you can get depends on your situation. You'll usually get the same amount each week but this may vary from time to time if your situation changes.
Payments can be made until 30 June 2024. You won't need to pay tax on this.
You may have received donations from organisations that are for people affected by the mosques attack. These will not be counted as income or cash assets when we're working out what you can get.
How to apply
If you have a case manager, talk with them about the help that may be available to you or your family.
If you don't have a case manager, please call 03 961 9257
If you're not sure if you qualify, please call so we can talk about it with you. Even if you don't, we'll see if there are other ways we can help.
We can arrange for someone to speak with you in your own language. Let us know when you call.
