Tell us if you’re going overseas in My Account
If you’re getting financial assistance from us, you can log in anytime to My Account to tell us if you're going to be travelling overseas before you leave the country.
Before travelling overseas, no matter what benefit you receive, you must let Work and Income know about your travel plans and your reasons for travel.
You can let us know you'll be out of the country in the 8 weeks leading up to your departure date. If you don't, your benefit will automatically stop from the day after you leave.
In certain situations you may be able to continue receiving your benefit while you’re overseas. Find out more:
NZ Super clients can't use My Account to give details about overseas travel. Use the:
If you receive the Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment or have a young partner with youth activity obligations, make sure you also contact your Youth Service provider directly to tell them about your travel plans.
What you’ll need
You'll need the following information:
- Date leaving New Zealand
- Date arriving back in New Zealand (if applicable)
- Reason for travel – proof of this may be required.
Keep your Boarding Passes as you may be asked to provide these to Work and Income when you return to New Zealand.
If you have a partner travelling with you, they'll need to fill out a separate online form.
