How to use your USB

You can use your USB stick to open and save documents. You'll need to safely eject your USB before you remove it from the kiosk.

Open a document that's on USB

1. Plug your USB stick into the USB port at the front of the kiosk under the screen.
2. A message will display at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen: 'Removable device detected'.
3. You can can either:
• select 'Open files app' in the message, or
• select the folder icon at the bottom of the screen (next to the 'Chrome' icon).
4. The File Explorer will open.
5. Select your USB name on the left-hand side to bring up the contents of your USB.
6. Select your document.
7. Select 'Open' at the top right hand side of the File Explorer.

Your document will open in a new browser tab.

Save a document to USB

Once you start editing your document, a message will display at the top of the page: 'Edits will not be automatically saved. Save now.'

1. Select the 'Save now' link in the message to open the File Explorer.
2. Select the name of your USB stick on the left-hand side.
3. Check the name of your file is correct. If you want to rename it:
• highlight the document name, and
• enter the new document name, eg, John Smith CV.
4. Select the 'Save' button.

The File Explorer will close and your document will appear.

A message will display at the top of the screen to let you know that your document has been saved. Any more changes you make will be automatically saved to your USB.

Eject your USB

You need to safely eject your USB before you take it out of the USB port. Otherwise you might lose data.

• Select the folder icon at the bottom of the screen to relaunch the File Explorer (next to the 'Chrome' icon).
• Select the 'Eject' icon to the right of your USB name (the little triangle with the line under it).

Your USB name and contents will disappear from the File Explorer. Now you can safely remove your USB stick from the USB port in front of the kiosk.

If you don't safely eject it first, a message will display in the bottom right hand corner of the screen: 'Whoa, there. Be careful. In the future, make sure that you eject your removable device in the Files app befopre unplugging it. Otherwise, you might lose data.'

Opening File Explorer

If you accidentally close the File Explorer window, you can open it again.

The quickest way to do this is to select the folder icon at the bottom of the screen (next to the 'Chrome' icon).
