Apply online if you're a new client
You can apply online for most benefits, NZ Super or other payments.
You have 20 working days from the date you first contact us to complete the application process.
You apply online using MyMSD. This is our online service where you can apply and manage your information online. You need a client number to set this up.
Call us on 0800 559 009 and say "client number" when asked why you're calling. We'll take some details from you and issue you a client number.
- your mobile phone number or email address
- if you were born overseas, the approximate date you arrived in New Zealand.
You can then set up a MyMSD and apply online.
As our contact centre is currently closed, you have 2 options to apply online. You can either:
Call us when we're open
Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm
Saturday 8am to 1pm
If you call us, we can issue you a client number that you can use to set up a MyMSD. This is our online service where you can apply and manage your information online.
If you apply using MyMSD you'll also be able to:
- book an appointment to come in and see us
- see your next steps
- use MyMSD in the future, to transact with us online.

You'll then have to call us to make an appointment.
