  • Processing your application

Once you submit an application we'll usually process this within three working days, however some applications may take longer.

This could be because we need to check your details with Inland Revenue. We may also need to check some details before or after you've been paid.

We'll email you once your application has been processed to let you know the outcome. If we need to get in touch before then, we'll call or email you.

  • Changing or cancelling your application

If you've already submitted your application and you want to make changes, for example if you entered the wrong details, those details have since changed, or you want to cancel an application, you can call us on 0800 40 80 40

If your application was waiting for some details to come through from Inland Revenue, you'll need to contact Inland Revenue. Once this is done, Inland Revenue will send us the details we need – you don't need to call us to sort this out.

  • Previous Wage Subsidy August 2021 payments

The previous Wage Subsidy payments have now ended. You can no longer apply for these, although we may still be processing some applications and making payments.

  • If your application's approved

We'll text or email you once the payment has been made – this will go into your account overnight.

Your bank will use a specific reference – MSD COVID19 D.

If you haven't received payment in your account, it may be because we don't have the right bank account number for you. If this is the case, the money will be returned to us and we'll call you.

  • If your application is not approved

We’ll email you to let you know. It may not be approved if:

    • the details you gave us don't match those held by Inland Revenue (IR). You’ll need to contact Inland Revenue to update your details
    • you are self-employed but have not updated your self-employment status with IR within the required timeframe
    • you're already getting a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy payment for the employees named in your application
    • you’re already receiving a COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme or Short-Term Absence Payment at the same time for the same employees
    • you applied too early for this payment, and you’re still getting another COVID-19 payment - you’ll find details about this in the email we sent you when current payment was approved. You can reapply when your current payment ends.
    • you applied using the wrong application form. You can apply for the correct payment instead
    • the application was completed by a employee (who is not a person in control of the business).

If you don’t get our email, check your spam, junk and deleted email folders.

If you don’t agree with our decision, our email will tell you how you can get this reviewed.

If you are state sector organisation and your application has not been approved, you will need to contact your monitoring agency to discuss this.

  • Other help available for businesses

As well as a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy 2021 payment, you may be able to get the COVID-19 Resurgence Support Payment from Inland Revenue, to help with fixed costs like rent.

You can get both payments at the same time.

If you cannot get a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy 2021 payment, you may be able to get the Leave Support Scheme or Short-Term Absence Payment instead. You cannot get these payments while you're getting a COVID-19 Wage Subsidy 2021 payment.
