How to apply for the COVID-19 Income Relief Payment

There are 2 different application forms, depending on what payments you may already get from us.

Please make sure you use the right application. If you use the wrong one, your application may be delayed.

The final day you can apply for the Income Relief Payment is 13 November, 2020.

Are you or your partner getting one of these payments?

This includes if you or your partner have already applied for one of these payments, but your application hasn't been approved yet.

  • NZ Super (or if you're a non-qualified partner)
  • Veteran's Pension (or if you're a non-qualified partner)
  • Student Allowance or Student Loan Living Costs
  • Jobseeker Support
  • Sole Parent Support
  • Supported Living Payment
  • Emergency Benefit or Emergency Maintenance Allowance
  • Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment
  • Accommodation Supplement
  • Disability Allowance
  • Temporary Additional Support
  • Yes - getting one of these payments

    If you or your partner are getting one of the payments listed above, you need to apply using our online form for 'Apply: On a benefit'.

    The information we'll need:

    • your Inland Revenue number
    • proof of your bank account if you're a new or non-current client
    • proof of your identity (eg passport, birth certificate) if you're a new or non-current client.

    If you have a partner, we'll also need their Inland Revenue number and proof of their bank account and identity.

  • No - not getting one of these payments

    If you or your partner are not getting one of the benefits or payments listed above, you can apply using MyMSD.

    The information we'll need:

    • your Inland Revenue number
    • proof of your bank account if you're a new or non-current client
    • proof of your identity (eg passport, birth certificate) if you're a new or non-current client.

    If you have a partner, we'll also need their Inland Revenue number and proof of their bank account and identity.

Check if you'd be better off on Income Relief Payment or another benefit

You can't get the Income Relief Payment and a benefit at the same time, so you'll need to decide which is best for you.

Benefits include Jobseeker Support, Supported Living Payment, Sole Parent Support, Youth Payment, Young Parent Payment,Emergency Benefit or Emergency Maintenance Allowance.

If you can't apply online

Call us to apply over the phone.

What happens next

We'll let you know if we need more information, or if we need to speak with your partner.

If we think you may be better off getting a different payment, we'll contact you to talk about this.

Once your application is processed

We'll let you know when your application is granted or declined. It'll take a few days. We'll also let you know if you are eligible for any other support.
