Overview of your responsibilities

  • Looking for work

    When you're getting the Income Relief Payment, you should (as appropriate to your situation):

    • look for work
    • accept suitable job offers, or
    • accept opportunities for redeployment or training.
  • Tell us when things change

    You need to tell us about any changes in your situation as this may affect your payments. For example:

    • you get any work
    • your partner earns $2,000 (before-tax) or more a week
    • you get a redundancy payment of $30,000 or more before tax
    • you get income protection insurance payments
    • you get Paid Parental Leave from Inland Revenue
    • you get weekly earnings-related compensation from ACC or Veterans' Affairs
    • you go overseas
    • you have a change in your personal details, eg. change of address, name, bank account, etc.
    • you have a change in your circumstances, eg. a change in your relationship.

  • Students

    While you’re getting the Income Relief Payment you should:

    • continue to meet your study requirements
    • look for other suitable work
    • let us know about any changes in your situation.
