Government announcement - Subsequent child policy

29 July 2020.

The Government has announced it plans to start work to remove the subsequent child policy, as part of its welfare overhaul.

This policy means parents are expected to look for, and return to work earlier if they have an additional child while receiving a main benefit. This also affects the client’s eligibility for Sole Parent Support (SPS).

We expect this change to come into effect in November 2021. We’ll be in touch with people affected by the change closer to the time.
