Fixing our Special Benefit issue
23 April 2018.
We’re putting things right for those Special Benefit clients who would have been better off getting Temporary Additional Support
We’ve found a small number of former clients would have been better off moving from Special Benefit to Temporary Additional Support, after it was introduced in 2006.
At the time we thought people weren’t able to move. We got this wrong and they could have. We’re sorry about not identifying this at the time. We’re putting this Special Benefit issue right and paying people what we owe.
We’re contacting people still getting Special Benefit who may be better off moving to Temporary Additional Support. We’ll meet with them to talk about their situation, and help them work out what’s best for them.
We’re also writing to people who used to get Special Benefit affected by this issue. We’re telling them what’s happened, saying sorry and asking them to use the payment errors enquiry form so we can pay them the money they’ve missed out on.
Anyone, including former clients, can use the payment errors enquiry form to see if we owe them money. Find more information, including the enquiry form on the Special Benefit issue webpage.
