Families Package 1 July changes

The Working for Families family tax credits, Orphan's and Unsupported Child's Benefits increased on 1 July, and Best Start and the Winter Energy Payment have started.
These changes have been made automatically. You don’t need to apply.
You can check details of your new payments on MyMSD. Or you can call our Service Express Line to find out how much your next payment is - 0800 33 30 30. You’ll need your client number which is on your Community Services Card and printed at the top of our letters.
When you’ll get your increase
Your first July payment won’t include the full increase as 1 July falls part way through a payment period. That’s because we pay for the week (or fortnight for NZ Super/Veteran’s Pension clients) that’s just been.
If you get a benefit (paid weekly on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday):
- in the week beginning 2 July you’ll get one day of your new amount (including Winter Energy Payment and any other Families Package changes)
- in the week beginning 9 July you’ll get your full new weekly amount.
If you get NZ Super or Veteran’s Pension:
- on the 10 July you’ll get 10 days of Winter Energy Payment
- on the 24 July you’ll get your full new fortnightly amount.
Impact on other payments
Your Winter Energy Payment won’t affect any other payments you get from us.
Your increased Working for Families payment may impact other payments you get from us, like Accommodation Supplement, Temporary Additional Support or Special Benefit. The total amount you get from us won't be any less than what you're getting now.
