Finding staff made easy - call centre transcript
Now what we're doing is we're understanding the employer and we say: we've got these clients, what do we need to do to make sure they're absolutely perfect to fit in to your company?
So it's really important for us that the client is a good fit.
So we really work closely with employers to package together the right sort of skills so we can train our clients for the right job.
In the past, success for you guys looked like getting a kid off the dole. Now, it's getting them a job; and those are different things, very different things. Work and Income's now much more top of mind for people like me than they used to be, because they're now trying to think about what employers actually need and they're trying to work with employers to bring it about.
We want to make this really easy for employers. We'll put the work in so that we can achieve a connection that sees clients into sustainable work and your organisation thriving.
We've got the ability to be flexible, to really learn about their business and to table programs, but we need the employer to engage with us, to understand what success is for them.
We operate the biggest placement service in New Zealand. We've got offices in every small town and every community. I mean, we pace tens of thousands of people into work every single year.
There's no cost to recruit our clients.
We'll do a lot of groundwork to make sure that they have got the confidence and the skills that they need to transition nicely into employment.
So, employers have somebody who, on day one, has the core skills that they need and is productive.
We can provide post-placement support. That might be transport to work, it may be childcare because it's shift work. We can help the employer, in terms of training, or investment from us to make sure that client fits perfectly into their business.
Getting people work-ready skills are really important; that's what we hear employers say all the time - we just want somebody with the right attitude.
A lot of contact centre work doesn't necessarily require any qualifications to begin with, so a lot of it is actually the attitude, aptitude and personality. If we can deal with well-trained, local people, rather than call centres getting offshored, I think that actually creates a better experience for everyone.
Work and Income, their main focus is always around our common goal, so getting more people into a role that they're going to enjoy, a role that they're going to stay in.
If there are training needs to get people up to the level where they're qualified for these jobs, that's a role that Work and Income can fill that virtually no-one else can.
Quite often companies will take a chance on a person, that person will be their most loyal employee. The difference it will make to their families is huge.
You know, it's not just the person in work, it's the role model for their children, their grandchildren, for their greater community.
If we can get someone off the benefit, earning a good salary in New Zealand; that's good.
Work and Income client 1:
Being able to get work did make me feel better about myself, and also it was good for the boys to see that I was doing that.
Work and Income client 2:
At the end of each week and I am getting my pay check, I feel good.
Work and Income client 3:
I've got like the best job ever, so… [laughs]
I'd be encouraging employers to say: okay, I'll give them a go to. If we can do that effectively, it will actually help the communities in which businesses operate. That's very important, not only for the community's success, but also for the business' success.
We can help you to build your community and build your business and have a really great employee by employing one of our clients.
