Irish benefits and pensions in New Zealand
When a former resident of the Republic of Ireland applies for a New Zealand benefit or pension it is important to know whether they are receiving an Irish benefit or pension, or if they may be entitled to one.
A client who has previously resided in Ireland must show their Overseas Residence on the application form when they apply for any New Zealand benefit or pension.
The overseas residence details must be entered on UCVII. These details are used by International Services to determine whether the client may be entitled to an Irish benefit or pension.
If the client is already receiving an overseas pension you should find out the details to establish whether this pension should be a direct deduction from the New Zealand benefit or pension.
The following Irish pensions are covered by the agreement and may be payable to former Irish residents living in New Zealand:
- Invalidity Pension
- State Pension (contributory)
- Guardian's Payment (contributory)
- State Pension (transition)
- Widows (Contributory) Pension
