Dress to Impress Factsheet

Support and assistance for men in Northland looking for a way into work. You can access the programme through a Transition to Work Grant.

What is Dress to Impress?

Dress to Impress is an organisation that helps men find economic independence by providing professional work clothing, career development tools and an ongoing support network. It is available to men from Northland who can travel to Whangarei.

What Dress to Impress can provide

Once you have a Transition to Work Grant, Dress to Impress can offer you three specialised programmes:

The Dressing programme

The dressing programme provides professional work clothing for men for job interviews and another outfit prior to starting permanent work. A selection of current fashions is available, generally in all sizes, along with shoes. Dress to Impress can also provide toiletries and other personal items.

All clothing and accessories are new or in pristine near-new condition.

Career Centre

Through their Career Centre, Dress to Impress supports and advises men who are not in work yet. This can vary from internet access through to one-on-one assistance.

Men at Work

With Dress to Impress, ‘professional’ is another name for any man in employment. They host a support network for men who have just returned to the workforce, including holding regular meetings and promoting peer support networks.

What do I need to do?

If you are looking for work of 30 hours or more per week (20 hours for single parents) and are eligible for a Transition to Work Grant you can ask Work and Income to be referred to the Northland Dress to Impress programme. A Transition for Work grant does not need to be repaid.
