Are you on a Sickness Benefit?

Let’s talk about what you can do.

Many disabled people and people with ill health want to work.

It's a proven way of keeping positive, staying involved and helping recovery.

That's why we're changing the way we work with people receiving Sickness Benefit.

What's changing?

  • From May 2011, most people who've been assessed as able to work at least 15 hours a week will need to start looking for a suitable part-time job.
  • If you're new to Sickness Benefit, you will need to provide at least three medical certificates in the first few months. After that, you will need a new medical certificate at least every 13 weeks. This helps us see how your recovery is going and assess your fitness for work.
  • Most people need Sickness Benefit only for a short time. If you're on Sickness Benefit for more than a year you will need to come in and talk to your case manager.

Case Managers will focus on what work you're fit to do, and what support you might need to help you find work.

Your benefit will not be cut if you can't find a job, but it may be affected if you don't actively look for work.

What now?

We will be in touch if the changes affect you.
