What is Job for a Local with Training?
Job for a Local with Training is a wage subsidy designed specifically for employers to take on unemployed job seekers in the Canterbury region who are registered with Work and Income.
From 25 July 2011, employers who meet the eligibility criteria will receive two lump-sum payments for each eligible Canterbury job seeker they employ. Payments will be made as follows:
- $3,000 when the job seeker(s) start work
- $2,000 on the completion of 26 weeks' continuous employment.
The expected outcome of the Job for a Local with Training position is that it continues when the subsidy ends.
Who qualifies for Job for a Local with Training?
Job for a Local is available for employers who have vacancies for unemployed people in Canterbury.
To qualify, the position must:
- be a permanent position that has not been previously advertised and
- be a full-time position of 30 hours per week or more and
- have an hourly rate equal to or higher than the adult minimum wage and
- be located within the Canterbury Region.
What will Work and Income provide?
- a one-off payment of $3000 at start-up, followed by a further $2,000 after 26 weeks, to employers who offer permanent positions to unemployed people
