LSV graduate – the right person for your job

An LSV graduate comes to you ready to succeed. They are fit, confident, motivated and ready to work for you. By offering them a job, you can help them shape a positive future.

What is Limited Service Volunteer (LSV)?

The Limited Service Volunteer (LSV) programme is a six week residential course for young people aged from 17 to 25 years. It is funded by the Ministry of Social Development, run by New Zealand Defence Force and supported by New Zealand Police.

It was set up to help young people develop the attributes needed to enter the workforce: motivation, self-awareness, self-respect and time management.

The young people who attend come from all walks of life with a common goal – they want to work. The course prepares them for the workforce and for life.

Employing an LSV graduate will give you a head start

Young people choose to take part in the LSV programme. Graduates have First Aid training, financial and budgeting skills and receive a report on their achievements.

When you employ an LSV graduate they already have the basics. You can focus on the training they need for your particular industry.

LSV graduates are working successfully in retail, hospitality, construction, farming, forestry, fishing, tourism, call centres and in the Defence Forces.

Young people graduating from LSV can offer:

  • a positive attitude
  • self discipline
  • a strong desire to work
  • teamwork skills
  • respect for others
  • a responsible outlook
  • confidence in themselves.

LSV graduates get Straight to Work

Once LSV graduates complete the course, they are ideal candidates for further training. They can move from LSV into a Straight to Work course developed for your industry. They may be eligible for Skills for Growth or Job Ops with Training to help you continue their training once they enter the workforce. We want to help you capitalise on their enthusiasm and motivation to get them into a sustainable career.

Employer Expos

Each LSV course hosts an employer expo, where employers can go to the course and meet the participants. By attending, you can hear more about what skills the participants have gained, and what they are interested in. You can even recruit directly from the programme.
