Job Ops
If you have some entry level work that you can’t afford to do in the current environment you may qualify for a Job Ops subsidy.
About Job Ops
Job Ops provides employers with a $5,000 subsidy to provide an employment opportunity to a young person aged between 16 and 24 with low or no skills, or work experience.
Job Ops helps employers create new jobs and gives young people valuable work experience. These opportunities are time-limited to 6 months, so can’t be used if you have a long-term or permanent role.
Job Ops criteria
To qualify, the position you are offering must:
- be new and would not exist if the Job Ops subsidy was not available to you
- be a continuous position for 6 months
- be a full-time position of 30 hours or more per week
- be an entry-level position that requires no pre-requisite skills or experience
- not replace current roles or roles lost due to redundancy.
If you qualify we will work with you to help find the most suitable person for your opportunity.
Registering a Job Ops opportunity
To register a Job Ops opportunity employers can contact our Employer Line on 0800 778 008. We’ll discuss whether your job opportunity meets the Job Ops criteria.
Payment and support
Job Ops will provide employers two lump-sum subsidy payments for each young person employed for at least six months in an entry-level position. An initial subsidy payment of $3,000 will be made at the commencement of the employment period, followed by a further $2,000 subsidy payment after the employee has worked for six months.
We will provide employers with a contact person after they list a Job Ops opportunity.
Employer's contribution
Employers will be required to pay at least the adult minimum wage to the employee for the agreed period.
The Department of Labour website provides the information you need to create an Employment Agreement.
Important information about the payment
Job Ops will only be available until 30 June 2011.
