Youth Employment package – Pre Budget announcement

The Government has announced a new Youth Employment package aimed at helping young people with skills, training and job opportunities.
The package includes:
Skills for Growth is a $5,000 subsidy for employers to take on young people from benefit and provide them with training towards a recognised industry qualification (of at least Level Two on the NZQF). The subsidy is to help the employer meet the training costs and the costs of supporting the young person while they are training.
Job Ops with Training is a $5,000 subsidy for employers to take on young people from benefit with low or no skills, or work experience and provide them with a six month employment opportunity. The subsidy is to help the employer meet the wage and training costs for the young person.
Limited Services Volunteers expansion
1,500 places per year (this new funding will provide 5,250 places from the beginning of 2012 to the end of the 2014/15 financial year) across all three LSV locations – Hobsonville, Trentham and Burnham.
