Taking your payments overseas?
23 November 2009
New rules will apply from 5 January 2010.
The Government has made some changes to legislation that will make it easier for people on New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension to go overseas.
What's changing?
The changes mean that if people want to travel or reside overseas they may be able to receive up to the full rate (100%) of their New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension entitlement, depending on how long they've lived in NZ between the ages of 20 to 65 years.
The changes do not affect people who are residing or planning to reside in some Pacific countries and countries that New Zealand has reciprocal agreements with. These include: Australia, Canada, Greece, the Netherlands, Jersey and Guernsey, Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
When is it happening?
The changes will take effect from 5 January 2010. You can apply for overseas payments under the new rules from 5 January 2010 onwards. In the meantime the old rules will apply.
