Taking your pension overseas?
27 October 2009
New rules will soon make it easier...
What's changing?
The Government has made some changes to legislation that will soon make it easier for people on New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension to go overseas.
The two main changes are:
- The flat rate of 50% that is currently paid to people residing in a country that is not covered by a social security agreement and is not a Pacific country will be changed to a proportional rate of up to 100%
- In addition to residing overseas people will be able to travel overseas to one or more countries for more than 26 weeks and still receive up to 100% of their New Zealand Superannuation or Veteran's Pension entitlement.
When is it happening?
An implementation date for these changes is yet to be determined. The Government will announce when the changes come into force.
